Ringlock Buyer's Guide

Ringlock scaffolding is one of the most popular types of scaffolding systems in the world. As a modular scaffolding system, it is extremely versatile and can be erected from the ground up or suspended. Ringlock scaffolding can also be erected in a stationary or rolling tower configuration, which makes it perfect for safe work at height.

The challenge of Ringlock scaffolding is deciding what components are needed to create a solution that works for your job site. For example, if high loads are going to be transferred through the scaffold, then Truss Ledgers (Double Ledgers) will be necessary. Likewise, if the scaffold is going to be suspended or hung, then a decision must be made on whether to erect the scaffolding using Ringlock Lattice Girders or a large Truss.

In addition, Ringlock component sizes vary depending on the region you are operating in. For example, in North America and Australia the Imperial Ringlock sizes are available in 7’-0” (2.13m) and 10’-0” (3.05m) bay lengths. However, in South America and Europe, available bay lengths are 6’-9 ½” (2.07m), & 10’-1” (3.07) respectively.

The engineers at AT-PAC are here to make these choices easier for you. Contact Us to schedule a consultation about which Ringlock scaffolding parts and accessories are the best option for your job site.

Tube & Clamp Buyer’s Guide

The defining feature of Tube and Clamp Scaffolding is its versatility. You can use clamps to connect horizontal tubes and vertical tubes in unlimited combinations. Because of this adaptability, Tube and Clamp Scaffolding complements the Ringlock System in many ways. Some of the more common applications include:

  • Joining Ringlock bays together
  • Creating building ties to suspend scaffold
  • Bracing Ringlock scaffolds
  • Closing gaps in platforms
  • Creating guardrails in tricky erections

When using Tube and Clamp Scaffolding, it is important to consider the safe working loads of the components, along with industry best practices, and your geographic location. For example, Right Angle Clamps are typically used to support diagonal tubes or vertical hanger tubes when erecting cantilevers or suspended scaffolds.  Likewise, Beam Clamps (in pairs) are typically used for suspending scaffold from I-Beams.

If your job site is in Canada, consider using Wedge Clamps because the clamp can be connected to the tube by the simple use of a hammer. This simplicity reduces the parts needed for erection while increasing the speed. However, outside of Canada, bolt clamps should be considered since they are heavy duty and easy to maintain. This simple guide provides additional clarity around which tube or clamp component to consider:

  • Canada – Open-ended aluminum tube, Wedge Clamps
  • USA – Steel tube with fitting, I-bolt Clamps
  • Europe – Open-ended steel tube, T-bolt Clamps
  • Australia – Open-ended steel tube, T-bolt Clamps
  • South America – Open-ended steel tube, T-bolt Clamps

The engineers at AT-PAC are always available to help you make the best decision on which Tube and Clamp Scaffolding components are best for your job site. Contact Us to schedule a consultation.

Access & Egress Buyer’s Guide

Proper Access and Egress equipment complement scaffold by extending job site access to workers. Ladders, stairs, planks, easily graspable handrails, and sturdy guardrails not only improve safety but allow workers to climb to needed heights and get into tight spaces, such as boilers or complex refinery installations where pipes or obstructions prevent usage of large pieces of scaffolding.

The most appropriate access and egress scaffolding tools for a job site depend on a variety of factors, including site conditions, health and safety requirements, and geographic location. For example, stair towers are recommended to create seamless access and egress when erecting scaffolds above 30 feet. Likewise, ladders are a good choice for small scaffolds, tower scaffolds, and job sites where access is limited.

Ladders can be vertical or inclined depending on the region and are a good choice if your job site requires erecting one to five lifts of scaffolds. However, a stair tower is recommended for anything above. If a stair tower is not erected, then the ladder must be regularly repositioned to meet safety regulations. In the US, the maximum vertical climb permitted is 30 ft. before a rest area is required. In most other parts of the world, a ladder should be repositioned every lift.

Another factor to consider when choosing the appropriate access and egress scaffolding accessories for a job site is what equipment is actually available. As an example, here are the standard types and sizes of AT-PAC access and egress equipment in various parts of the world:

North America:

  • Regular Ringlock 10 Leg Steel Stair (6’-6” (2.0m) Lift Height)
  • Aluminum Platform Stairs
  • Boiler Founding Stair (3’-3” (1.0m) & 6’-6” (2.0m) Stair Lift Height)
  • Vertical Steel Ladder

South America:

Work Platforms Buyer’s Guide

AT-PAC work platforms are used throughout the world; in hot, dry environments, in regions with stifling humidity, in wind-swept urban centers, and in cold, snowy terrain. They are built to stand up to the rigors of an active job site and designed for use with AT-PAC Ringlock scaffolding, Tube & Clamp, and Frame scaffold product lines.

When used in conjunction with our Tube & Clamp products and other scaffolding accessories, AT-PAC work platforms provide unparalleled stability. In fact, our Ringlock Steel Planks have anti-slip surfaces and holes designed for water drainage, which is important in cold environments where snow and ice are typical. A buildup of ice can dramatically increase the weight of the scaffolding and lead to dangerous conditions. These drainage holes prevent ice buildup to provide a strong, safe working surface.

We understand that safety and reliability are particularly important when it comes to your work platforms. Your employees and subcontractors need steady, reliable footing. To meet this need, we offer a wide range of work platform products, including:

  • Modular Steel Planks
  • Wood Planks
  • Aluminum and Plywood decks
  • Aluminum Pic-Boards
  • Aluminum Beams for decking
  • All-aluminum Planks
  • Ringlock Steel Planks

To choose the best work platform for your job site, consider the scaffolding being erected. Wood Planks are typically used to close gaps in platforms, span between circular scaffolds, or as Toeboards where required. Ringlock Steel Planks are used within the scaffold bay lengths. When erecting with Ringlock Steel Planks, it is possible to create gaps in platforms using Ringlock Mid-Transoms, which is perfect for industrial work where columns or steel work is prominent.

The width and length required of a Ringlock plank is determined by the region or application. For example, in North America all Ringlock Planks (with the exception of our 10ft long Planks) are capable of supporting Heavy Duty Rating (75PSF), which meets the requirements for nearly all scaffolds erected in North America.  At the same time, more scaffolding can be erected in a shorter amount of time using 10ft long Planks than with shorter bays. All Ringlock Planks are tested in these regions.

No matter which option you choose, AT-PAC work platforms provide a strong, safe working surface for every application. Contact us to determine which work platform solution is best suited for the applications at hand and the type of scaffolding being used.
